Community Work
Lovegrove & Cotton are committed to helping those who have been afforded less blessings than that which those in our profession take for granted. One of our pre-occupations is to provide help to HIV affected orphans and families in Ethiopia.
The interest in this country dates back to Kim Lovegrove’s childhood in Africa, as he was brought up in Malawi, Zambia and Ethiopia in the 1960’s. His grandfather, Norman Lovegrove, held a senior position in UNESCO in Addis Ababa and had dealings with the then-emperor, Haile Selasse otherwise known as ‘The Lion of Judah’.
In the ’60s, Ethiopia was a very poor country and alas is still poverty stricken; with a population 105,000,000 it has some 5,000,000 orphans, orphaned by poverty, HIV, war or simple neglect.
The orphanage Hope For Children was established some years ago and provides a home and sustenance for some 600 children who have been affected by the HIV epidemic. HFC provides a large number of home carers that are domiciled with small groups of children with the view to providing those children with quasi-familial support, kindness and “touch wood” opportunity.
Lovegrove & Cotton Sponsorship of Child Advocate
For ten years, Lovegrove and Cotton and its previous incarnations funded the in-house lawyer at the Hope For Children (HFC) NGO for children orphaned by HIV. As the lawyer, Rahel, has moved on to another position, Lovegrove and Cotton continues to help fund the chief operating officer at HFC.
Be sure to peruse our eLibrary for more information on our work with HFC.
